The holidays are super busy and stressful because of all the things you must do. Whether it is planning events, cooking, buying Christmas Gifts or traveling, it can be overwhelming. We don’t need to add to that stress by being unprepared for emergencies or home thefts.
The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is a popular time for thieves to strike because most have a lot of expensive gifts in their home. Here are a few important tips to remember to keep your home safe.
- Never leave boxes or expensive items outside of your home. With busy holidays schedules, it may be difficult to be home when a package is delivered. Consider having items delivered to your office or work. Alternative, you can take advantage of pick up locations and have your packages delivered to certified pick up locations.
- Make your home look like there is someone home. Many people close all their blinds and curtains for privacy but that is a target for thieves. Instead, leave a blind open and have a light on inside your home to make it look like someone is there. The use of timers that turn lights on at random times is also a good solution. Remember to have someone collect the mail if you are away for an extended period of time and leave a car parked in the driveway if possible.
- Make your home a hard target. Statistics say that professional thieves won’t spend more than 1-2 minutes assessing a target. If your home appears to be difficult to get in and out undetected, they will usually move to an easier target.
- Invest in a security system! Secure Lock & Alarm can help you assess potential weaknesses in your home security and find ways to fix it.
